Double Lunch Presents:

Blue Moon Marquee is a Gypsy Blues band that stem from the wild rose foothills of Alberta. A.W. Cardinal (vocals/guitar) and Jasmine Colette a.k.a. Bandlands Jass (vocals, bass, drums) write and perform original compositions influenced by anything that swings, jumps or grooves. Artists such as Lonnie Johnson, louis Armstrong, Blind Willie Jonson, Charley Patton, Howlin' Wolf, Bill Jennings, Big Bill Broonzy, Tom Waits, Memphis Minnie, & Django Riendhart to name a few.

After living and performing in Montreal and New York City cutting his teeth in the jazz and blues scenes, A.W. decided it was time to head home to the Rocky Mountains and bought a Greyhound ticket as long as he is tall. Back to the great Canadian West to record the album "Stainless Steel Heart."

It was on the West coast where he met up with Jasmine Colette, a Hoodoo lady who has toured the bulk of North America over the last eight years as a bassist, singer and hoop dancer. Blue Moon Marquee was formed after an impromptu late night jam and recording session in Feb, 2012. They have since been traversing the country for nearly four years, delighting audiences from Alert Bay to Quebec City. Appealing to blues, folk, jazz, and rock audiences alike, they have played a wide array of venues from farmer’s markets & blues bars to concert halls & jazz festivals.

Blue Moon Marquee is a live duo act with the energy and sound of a full band. Jasmine Colette, the rhythm section, not only commands the upright bass but also keeps the swing with her feet while singing harmonies. A.W. Cardinal, a Metis of Cree heritage, howls with a distinctive thick and smoky vocal that barrels out like a raging bull, while playing a jazz tinged blues guitar.

Appreciated for their authenticity, Blue Moon Marquee’s songs tell stories of emotion and sense of being. The songs have a heavy dose of atmosphere and texture with a penchant for beat characters and gritty settings. They tell of the relationships of human beings and the way we live. It is perhaps this connection to Canada’s working class that draws so many to their music, crossing many of the usual genre, age and cultural barriers. The songs are their own arrangements, words, and style and with these elements they are able to perform in their own unique way.

Blue Moon Marquee's passionate performances and smouldering onstage chemistry is their trademark, and the way Colette's angelic tones lift A.W.'s beaten down "bukowski-esque" mystique is something that enthralls audiences from the back room bar to the public square. To date Blue Moon Marquee have released two full length albums of their original compositions - "Stainless Steel Heart" (2013) - "Lonesome Ghosts" (2014) and one online E.P. "Last Dollar".
